James potter was annoyed. The snitch seemed to be taunting him, staying just out of sight as he battled the stormy weather. Hogwarts loomed in the background but James was too busy searching for the snitch to take notice. He heard a cheer go up from the scarlet clad crowd as his siblings scored yet another goal. He knew they were fielding an impressive team, the potter children had great genes of course, but even they would tire in this ridiculous weather.
Just as James was about to curse in frustration, he spotted a glint of gold. There it was, the snitch, floating just behind the goalposts. The seeker from hufflepuff, a rather good seventh year girl, was oblivious to its presence. He knew he should be cautious not to alert her but he was too goddamned tired of waiting so he shot off at a breakneck pace to where the snitch was. Warner, the opposing seeker, was on his tail almost immediately, but James had been flying far too long against his retired professional players of parents to be even slightly deterred. His skill combined with the speed of his new Trailblazer left her in the dust.
The snitch seemed to sense his presence and fell into a deep dive in order to escape him. James followed suit and a death defying matter of seconds saw him raising the snitch held tightly in his hand. The crowd who had seemed to be holding its breath let it out together in one deep sigh and broke out in tumultuous cheers.
First one and then another player barrelled into James and wrapped him in a family bear hug. With a younger sibling on each arm, James roughly landed on the ground and was congratulated by everyone as the captains badge glowed proudly on his chest. He made a point to encourage Ms. Warner before he was dragged away to a party in the gryffindor common room.
