A/N- So I really hated the storyline of the second half of season 7. I've rewatched Grey's so many times but every single time I get to the second half of season 7 through the season 8 finale I want to scream. The way Lexie (my favorite character, obviously) was portrayed has only been topped in awful out of character-ness by the recent departure of Alex Karev. I also really hated how Mark kind of got a free pass regarding his actions (despite the fact that I love him too) and never really had to deal with their consequences while Lexie's entire life just kind of fell apart. I mean the entire last couple years of her life were incredibly sad and she was obviously severely depressed despite the act she was putting on. I mean, I get the whole Mark wanting to be involved in his child's life and everything, but he didn't even have the balls to tell her the truth and just let her figure it out for herself. Then in season 8 he's flaunting his new relationship as Lexie's sham relationship with Jackson is ending. I mean, his actions and lack of honesty have caused Lexie all this pain and yet Mark still gets to move on towards his dreams while she is increasingly miserable. He doesn't even tell her that he loves her until she's dying an incredibly painful death and it's too late. So, I decided to give Lexie a more fitting character arc.
Disclaimer- I do not own Grey's Anatomy.
She couldn't believe what was happening. Here she was, standing in his kitchen, a kitchen she had once considered theirs, making him a home cooked meal and trying to think of a way to tell him her news. Funny enough, she had thought that he had provided the perfect opportunity for her in telling her that Callie was pregnant. And yet, as the realization of what was truly happening dawned on her as he sat there silently, she felt her entire world shift, as the news she had been surprisingly excited to share with him suddenly lost some of its joy as her heart broke.
Mark Sloan was having a baby with his best friend, and Lexie Grey was being blindsided with that news as she stood in the small kitchen of the apartment they had shared not so long ago, cooking him dinner and looking for an opportunity to tell him that SHE was pregnant.
But she couldn't tell him now, as he was telling her about hearing the baby's heartbeat earlier in the day, the unyielding love of a father already evident in his voice. No, she needed to get out of his apartment as quickly as possible.
"How the hell...did you get me in this position, TWICE?" Lexie barked at Mark as she held back tears. "It's...unbelievable. You are UNBELIEVABLE!"
She grabbed her belongings and left his apartment as fast as she could, praying that he wouldn't follow her.
Lexie managed to make it into the elevator before losing all ability to control her tears. As the elevator doors opened, she ran out the ground floor doors to her car, jumping inside and starting it, hoping she could make it back to Meredith's before her uncontrollable tears resulted in a full-scale breakdown.
This wasn't how this night was supposed to go.
