A small, long haired child walked in the near deserted streets of Konohagakure, the sun gone out of sight leaving behind only a trail of fiery reds, oranges, and yellows as a memory of the hot day left to let the cold of night to take its place. The child, a 7 year old boy named Kaname, was walking back home after spending the day in his mother's greenhouse, though she rarely went there anymore, giving him free reign of the place that Kaname found most calming.

Kaname was a few blocks away from his home, passing one of 7 of Konoha's orphanages when he heard dulled shouting. Pausing, he listened to the noise but didn't have to strain his hearing for long when the door to the orphanage was slammed open and a blond haired boy was thrown out.

"And don't come back!" cried out the woman who could only be the caretaker, then slamming the door shut, leaving behind a heavy silence in the fading light of evening.

There was the sound of a chocked sob from the bond haired boy before he shouted at the closed door, "Fine, I don't need this place anyway!" Then the boy got up and walked away from the large building, not even looking up as he passed a still figure that was just passed the front gates of his ex-home.

Said figure shook his head as he watched the solemn little boy walk the way he himself had just come from. Tilting his head, Kaname deemed that he would be fine, seeing the shadows moving minutely, a whisper of chakra gliding softly against his pale skin, alerting him that those following him were more than likely ANBU. But . . .

"Hey," he called out softly, but loud enough for the younger boy to hear him. The whiskered boy stopped, turning around to met soft grey eyes that were placed on a delicate face. "Do you need a place to sleep tonight?"

Sky blue eyes stared at Kaname wearily as he bobbed his head. Cocking one eyebrow up Kaname mildly asked, "Do you want to come with me? Get some sleep and then see Hokage-sama tomorrow about where you can stay."

`"Why should I go with you?" the blue eyed boy asked petulantly.

"Well, you don't have anywhere else to go, you can get a free meal or two, and you can sleep in a warm bed tonight. Judging by how you look, it has been a while since you had a decent meal or place to sleep in a long time," Kaname ticked of, his slim fingers counting every reason of.

The bond grumbled, narrowing his eyes at the dark haired boy before saying, "Fine," and walking back to where Kaname was. There was silence as the two boys walked, one leading and the other following.

"Hey, by the way, my name is Shironagi Kaname, what's yours?" the grey eyed boy questioned.

There was a small moment of silence before the blond answered quietly, almost shyly, "U-Uzuamki Naruto."
