A little drabble featuring Daddy!Charming and his reaction to finding out about Emma and Killian's "dalliance". I'm a little disappointed with how this turned out, but I'm gonna share it anyway for cute and fluffy reasons.
Disclaimer: Dur. Obviously, I don't own OUAT or its characters. If I did, I probably wouldn't be sitting at home right now writing fanfiction about them…
David arrived at Emma's apartment Saturday morning a bit earlier than they had originally discussed. He figured if he was woken at 7am to a screaming infant, he might as well head over to Emma's early to see if she wanted to share in the misery.
He hesitated outside her apartment door for just a moment, hearing noises coming from inside. Good, he thought. At least she was already awake. First knock, no answer. Second knock, still no answer. He reached for the handle surprised to find it unlocked. Walking into the apartment slowly, he called out to let her know he was there. She was a grown woman after all. Lord knows this family has already walked in on enough awkward situations with each other to make up for 28 years without…
Whatever scene he had conjured up in his mind did not prepare him for what he saw happening in the kitchen. Emma was awake alright-and DANCING?! She moved around the kitchen with ease gathering breakfast supplies, dancing to whatever song she had playing through her ear-buds. Just when David thought he couldn't be more surprised by the situation, she started to sing along.
Emma still hadn't realized he was there, so David took advantage of this moment to enjoy the happiness on his daughter's face, silently thanking whatever it was that made her smile so brightly this morning.
Emma continued her breakfast preparations, pulling down two plates, two sets of silverware, and pouring two cups of coffee. It was then that David noticed the familiar black leather coat hanging on a peg by the door and finally put the pieces together. He had prepared himself for this discovery (the whole town knew it was only a matter of time before they got together), but all thoughts of threatening fatherly speeches left his mind as he watched his daughter. Instead, David felt an unexpected wave of gratitude for the pirate as Emma continued to dance and sing around the kitchen. He had never before seen her so carefree and happy.
Not wanting to ruin the moment, David took his leave, quietly closing the front door before Emma caught on to him. He called her shortly after, asking to reschedule their plans. Whatever work issues they were going to discuss suddenly didn't seem that important anymore.
