Brandon Blackwood P.O.V.
Relax, I repeated to myself, trying my best to comfort my nerves. I've been repeating that word to myself a lot more lately, but it didn't seem to be working.
"Sweetheart, are you going to be okay?" My mother questioned, as I gripped my suitcase a little tighter.
I nodded my head a bit and smiled at her. "Yeah mom, I'll be fine. I'll call you later tonight once I'm all settled in."
She ruffled my light brown hair and pulled me into a tight hug.
"I can't believe you're already at college. Are you sure you don't need help unpacking?"
I smiled once more and pulled my mother into another tight hug. I love my mother, I really do, but sometimes she can be a bit over bearing.
"Yeah mom, I'll be fine. It'll be easier if I just go, my roommate might be there and I don't want to over crowd him." I said, hoping I could make a good first impression without my mom around.
"Alright dear, remember that I put your inhaler in your side pocket of your backpack." She said kissing both of my cheeks.
"Okay, okay mom, I got it." I snapped a bit. I was going off to college and she was treating me like a child.
I spun on my heels and started making my way to the entrance.
"I love you." She called to me.
I turned my head to look at her again.
"Yeah, I love you too. Call you later."
With those final words of goodbye, I started my journey up the long stairwell to the top floor where my new double room awaited.
A pit of worry tightened in my stomach at that thought. Throughout my entire high school career I was the "loser" and the "punching bag". I wasn't very tall and was as skinny as a twig, which made me an easy target for jocks. I also had thick black framed glasses and an inhaler, so I wasn't really a heart throb. Basically, high school was lonely and painful for me.
I was hopeful though…that college would be better than high school. Maybe I would make some friends, maybe even find a nice girl.
My only hope was that I wasn't stuck with some hot arrogant jock that was going to make my college life a living hell. I really wanted this time to be different.
I walked down the floor passing wooden doors that had student's names printed across them.
Stan Fields & Mike Sullivan
Kyle Fredrick & Taylor Southpoint
The names continued like that until I got to the very last room.
Brandon Blackfoot & Percy Jackson
I took a deep breath and unlocked the door. This was it. I told myself. The moment of truth.
Just before I was about to push open the door a heard a voice singing horribly off key from inside.
"I can't stop this feeling. Deep inside of me. Girl, you just don't realize. What you do to me." The voice sang.
Well, at least I know my roommate isn't majoring in music…hopefully. I laughed a bit at the voice and pushed open the door.
Half of the room was already a hurricane of a mess. Blue, green, and orange covered shirts were thrown all over the place as a boy with messy black hair routed around inside his suitcase while singing.
"Um, hello…I'm your roommate." I said a bit awkwardly.
"Hm?" he muttered in a surprised voice before his head shot up. The poor teens head shot up so quickly that he banged it on one of the low shelves. I winced at the loud sound it caused.
"Urg…" the boy whined as he rubbed his head. "When did that shelf get there?"
I laughed at that. The teen—Percy, I figured from the name plate on the door—started awkwardly making his way over to me.
He reached out his hand and smiled in a good natured way. The pit of worry that started forming in my stomach was already disappearing.
"Hey, you must be Brandon, I'm Percy." He said as he shook my hand.
I smiled back awkwardly as we shook, "nice to meet you."
Our hands quickly broke contact as we both turned back to our respected beds. I slumped down my bags on the bed, and started to unzip them.
"So, what program are you in?" Percy asked after a few seconds of silence.
"Computer Science, you?" I asked, as I started to place my folded tee shirts in the bottom shelf.
I heard Percy move some boxes around before he answered me, "Ocean Science."
I gave a slight nod at that, it made sense, he practically smelled like the ocean.
"Oh that's cool. Planning on being a Marine Biologist?" I asked, hoping to keep the conversation going. I was never really good at talking to people.
I turned slightly and watched as Percy attempted to hang a picture.
"Yeah, something like that." He said in a friendly voice. Percy came off as one of those people who just naturally made friends. A part of me felt jealous at that and worried. Was he going to be the "party" guy?
"So, what do you want to do after college?" Percy asked, and soon both of us were consumed in a lengthy conversation.
Apparently Percy was a pretty nerdy guy, despite his athletic looks and charismatic personality. He liked watching shows like the "Walking Dead" and "Game of Thrones". He also played the same video games as I did and was a huge Spiderman fan.
We kept talking for a bit until a loud banging interrupted us.
"Come in!" Percy called out. The wooden dorm door opened and revealed one of the most beautiful girls I had ever seen.
The girl was pretty short, reaching up to the height of my shoulder; she had straight light brown hair that was cut just after her jawline, framing her round face in the best possible way. Her eyes were a bright blue color that stood out strongly against her light tan skin, making me realize that brown hair and blue eyes were the best combination.
"Ah…sorry to bother you, but—wait…Percy?" She questioned in a soft unsure voice.
"Shelby? Is that you? I thought you were going to med school?" He smiled at her.
She smiled uneasily, "Yeah, I told my parents that I would rather study journalism. They weren't too please, but they understood."
"Well good for you." Percy said, turning in my direction.
"Brandon, this is Shelby Summer, we went to high school together. She was practically the sole reason I passed math."
I nodded a bit, not trusting my voice at the moment. Not only was the girl pretty, but she was also smart. There was no chance I would stand a chance with her.
"So, did Annabeth come with you?" Shelby asked.
Percy shook his head, making his hair fall in front of his face. "No, she got an architectural design fellowship in Europe. She'll be down there for a year."
Shelby's eyes grew a bit wide at the news, making my heart race even more.
"That's amazing." Shelby said.
Percy nodded his head once again. "Sure is. So, what did you need when you first came in?"
"Oh, I was just wondering if either of you guys knew how to hook up to the internet."
Percy laughed and walked over to me, placing a hand on my shoulder.
"Well, as you are well aware, I'm shit with just about anything to do with computers, and I'm just about to head out. But my friend Brandon here is in Computer Science, and I'm sure he would love to help you out."
I could feel myself blush as Shelby's eyes met mine.
"Ah…yeah...I could…um…help." I stuttered.
Shelby reached up and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, "oh great." She said, smiling a bit.
I felt my heart skip a beat, I wanted her to smile all the time, day or night.
Just then the door flew open and a pretty Native American girl strolled in. She casually panned the room with her eyes and grinned at Percy.
"I see you moved right in." She smirked at him.
"Well Piper, I spent most of my time getting to know my roommate." Percy said proudly
Piper's eyes flew over to me and she smiled, "Hey, I'm Piper Mclean. I'm in the Law and Justice program."
My eyes widened at her name. "Mclean? As in—"
"Yes, yes the very same." Piper said, with a bit of a painful expression.
I nodded, sensing that she didn't want me to ask any more questions, "That's cool."
Piper smiled kindly at me, and then she turned her attention to Percy, "ready?" she asked.
Percy nodded and grabbed a blue zip up sweater from the ground.
"Yup" Percy said as he walked next to Piper, "I'll see you guys later."
Both of them disappeared out of the room, leaving me and Shelby alone.
Shelby shifted from foot to foot, looking just about as awkward as I felt. "Well, do you want to come with me?"
"Ah…yeah" I said and walked forward about two steps before I tripped over a box. I embarrassingly landed face first on to the floor, right in front of Shelby.
"Oh my god, are you okay?" She asked, coming to help me up. At this point all I wanted to do was curl into a ball and die.
"I'm fine," I blushed hard. Great I thought. I'm going to be a loser once again.
"You're not a loser." Shelby said, yanking me to my feet. I guess I had said that out loud.
I brushed myself off, "I was throughout high school." I said without thinking.
Shelby smiled, "So was I, but this is college, nobody cares."
"Oh…I…um…well now." I stuttered, realizing that Shelby was still holding my hand.
She giggled at me. I deemed it the greatest sound in the world.
"You're cute. Now come on. I've gone too long without the internet." She pulled me out of the door without another word.
And that's how I realized that college was going to be much better than high school.
Oh my goodness guys, I am so sorry about the delay. My life had been crazy busy lately, I just moved to college! Hence the idea for this one-shot! Haha, I hope you liked the reappearance of Shelby. Also, brace ourselves for a later bro Piper/Percy one-shot. Because they're my brotp of brotp's. The next one shot will be Jason/Leo one. YAY! And just an FYI but some of the later one-shots will be more heavy handed and examine some pretty heavy points. I mean, just because they're demigods, doesn't mean they won't have real problems. Any who, I hope you liked it…and if you didn't…I'm really sorry. :(
