A/N: Hey an update! Wow writer's block. Hopefully it was worth the wait!"

Gotham Knight-11

"You better not be playing me. I am a foe you do not want to have. Get the job done you hear me?! Or else I'll personally put a bullet in your head!"

Luthor slammed the phone back in it's place. "Imbeciles."

"That's the trouble with working with madmen. They don't have a honor code."

Luthor gasped reaching for the top draw of his desk but it was imobilized as the batarang bit into the wood and released an electrical charge. Getting up from his chair he turn to face the vigilante who emerged from the shadow of the room. Collecting himself Luthor let out a huff.

"Well, well, to what do I owe the pleasure of this sudden visit?"

"I don't care what you do to metropolis, someone else as you know can handle it, but when your crimes mess with my City. You can bet I won't stop until I get the answers I need."

Luthor couldn't help but laugh. "So you and Superman working together. Forgive me if I find that amusing."

Batman in an instant knocked the billionaire against the opposite wall pinning him there. "I only ask once. What could you have that the Joker so desperately needs?"

"I have not the faintest idea. You'll have to ask him." Luthor played but proved the wrong choice as with force, Batman turned the desk on it's side turning his disdain to the shocked billionaire.

"The ports in Gotham have been over run putting innocent lives in danger. It's not hard to see your end Luthor. You're vendetta against Superman is no secret. You can do whatever you want with him, however, the Joker is mine to deal with. He stole something from-"

"Yes the gala, I forgot that you were there. Listen...this isn't your fight."

"Like hell it isn't." Batman shot back his grip tightening. "Tell me or I will make your existence unbearable."

To Batman's surprise Luthor boldly broke contact with him. Straightening his jacket. "You know Batman..I admire your tenacity. Your never ending determination to do what is right, but, unlike the man of steel you are never afraid to push the limits. To get your hands dirty. You are everything the Joker said you were."

Batman watched as Luthor walked over to the window looking out over the city. "My quarrel is not with you Batman, that you are right, unfortunately you are hindering my plan and there for I must eliminate you from the problem."

Seeing the reflection in the window Batman rolled out of the way as Luthor turned and fired his gun. Gritting his teeth he launched himself on to the desk and did a round house kick knocking the gun out of Luthors hands. Grabbing a stunned Luthor, Batman slammed him against the desk.

Luthor raised his arms up in defence before letting out a startled cry as he was tossed aside. Placing a small device against the draw. Batman shielded himself from the small explosion with his cape. In a instant he had it open and took the wooden case out of it.

"WAIT-YOU can't just take that!" Lex shouted as he scrambled to his feet.

Batman looked at the man before him. "Watch me."

Suddenly a plume of smoke erupted between the two of them. In a coughing haze luthor got to his feet to see the vigilante gone.

"Blast it anyway." he grumbled as he knelt in front of his desk.

"Yes...and that was where?..." Clark rummaged around on his desk for a spare piece of paper. Grabbing a pen he went to scribble on it then quickly clicked the top... "And that was at what time?...and no other reports so far? Do you have a name? No, no, that is fine, you've been a..help. Thanks again, bye."

Just as Clark set his phone down Lois approached him. "Hey Smallville can I borrow your stapler?"

"Yeah, sure." Clark said as he opened the bottom draw of his desk.

Lois caught site of the words shipments, Gotham..and memorial."

"What are you working on?" she asked as she took the stapler from Clark.

Clark leaned back in his chair. "I'm just looking into a side project."

Lois eyebrows shot up slightly. "Since when do you double agent?"

"I informed Mr. White about my extra hours, he's happy that he doesn't have to pay. I just need the resources, you know."

"So this is personal." Lois stated her interest peaking as she sat on the edge of his desk.

"No..just. Innocent people could be hurt if my hunch is correct." Clark said as he gathered up his evidence and put it in his portfolio.

"A hunch you aren't willing to share." Lois noted as Clark adjusted his glasses.

"A reporter never shows his contacts."

"Fine... Lois straightened she walked a few steps before turning to him. "You're looking into the illegal smuggling between Gotham and Metropolis?"

Clark met her eyes. Knowing Lois would find her own way around his story he nodded. With excitement she sat on the desk again.

"I have too."

Clark couldn't hide his surprise. "Really? What made you-?"

Lois got up and grabbed a chair from the empty desk across from them. Plunking it down beside Clark. She sat in it.

"Ever since Batman came to Metropolis it got me thinking. What would make a cold ruthless crime fighter like Batman come to our city? There is plenty of crime in Gotham to keep him busy for thirty years."

"So what's your angle?" Clark asked his interest mounting.

"I find it just too coincidental that all this started up as soon as Wayne Enterprises and Luthor Corp merged." Lois replied.

"I can see the reasoning behind Lex luthor but...Bruce Wayne is nothing but a rich playboy. Cares more about image than getting his hands dirty in something dubious as illegal smuggling Clark answered.

"I found out that suspicious activity has been going non stop..I'm not sure what the Joker has to do with this but..I'll find out. Say do you want to work together on this?"

Clark rubbed the back of his neck. The last thing he wanted was to have anyone caught up in this mess. Exspecially Lois.

"I-you know I think I have all I need for my article...just have to put a good story together. Thanks for the offer."

Lois huffed. "Ok fine...but if I may offer some suggestion."

"What's that?" Clark asked as she got up from her seat.

"Don't do anything to get yourself killed. Superman he maybe fast but he can't protect everyone. I'll send you what I've got. Thanks for the stapler." she concluded as she left the room.

Clark sat back in his chair. As much as he didn't want to do it but he would have to contact Batman he may have all the powers in the world but...keen perception isn't one of them. A blip on his computer caught his attention. Coming forward he clicked open a window exposing the e-mail from Lois.

Opening it he was grateful for the added info but he suddenly tensed when he read a note at the bottom of the message.

'You may think differently but...I encountered Bruce Wayne the last week and he was hurt. Enough that blood stained my hand. If you change your mind, you know where I am.'

Clark quickly typed out a thank you before getting up from his seat and collected his things and left.

Bruce pinched the bridge of his nose hoping to ease the weariness from his eyes. The case he had confiscated from Lex was nothing but vague. The only thing that was of benefit for him is that two sets of finger prints were on the case. Belonging to Luthor and the Joker. As far as the samples he extracted from the case it revealed that it was mineral.

Raising a hand to his chin in thought he walked back to where the case lay open. "What am I missing?"

After a moment it suddenly hit him. Walking over to his computer he drew up the files he had on both Superman and Lex, scrolling through the files he then pulled up a picture then a article two years back. Then it hit him.

"Kryptonite." he said to himself in realization.

As his efforts lasted another two hours the conclusion not only gratifying but also terrifying. The threat he had been expose to wasn't regional but Global. He couldn't do it on his own that much...but one thing he did know is that the one two people that could stop the crime in it's tracks were the two people he trusted the least.

Lois looked around the bustiling room for the man she wanted to see. Catching site of him near the coffee machine she quickly strode over to him.

"Hey, Jimmy, Are you up for an adventure?" she asked as he tossed the stir stick in the garbage.

"Oh, hey Lois. You know I'd say sure but then I realize it's you."

"Ha ha. I'm serious Jimmy what I'm offering you could earn you that new lense you've been craving for. I'll even put in a good word with Perry."

Curious Jimmy looked at her. "I'm listening."

"Clark and I may be on to something but we need photographic proof to back up our claims."

"Ok...what;s it about?"

"Can't talk here...come on lets go." Lois stated as she took him by the arm and dragged him out of the area.

"Lois..Lois, easy! Let me get-" Jimmy was broken off as a loud eruption captured everyone's attention.

The force so great the windows rattled causing everyone to scream. "Look!"

Both Jimmy and Lois ran to the side windows to see the plume of flame and smoke rise into the air.

"It's in Metro's Harbor." Jimmy stated as he picked up the camera around his neck to take a picture.

Then to everyone's shock another eruption was caught but this time was pointed out on the tv screens. The two of them shared a look. As the header read breaking News-Gotham City.

"Aw man that can't be good." Jimmy said.

Jimmy you have no idea." Lois answered her eyes landing on the empty desk wear Clark worked.
