DEATH STAR

Chapter 2- Missed Resonation

The teenagers continue to make their way to the DWMA, Maka wants to speak with Lord Death to see if he has any idea about what was going on with the zombies in her home town. Soul wants the same while Black Star and Tsubaki are traveling just for the fun of it all. No wait, that's what Black Star is traveling for while Tsubaki is traveling to keep his behind out of trouble.

It takes them about half a night to even get close to the DWMA as Maka suggested that the group be careful walking. During the journey they had to stop to get some rest. During that time these events happened:

The group came across a small alley.

"Traveling at night is dangerous. I think it's best if we stop here and rest."s Maka suggested to everyone.

"What, stop? Didn't you know, a great star like me doesn't need any rest. Rest is for the weak and Gods." Black star all but yelled.

"I think Maka has a point Black Star. You want to be in top fighting shape in case we get attacked again." Tsubaki weighed in.

"I'm always at the top of-"

Before Black Star could finish Soul had placed him in a sleeper hold and covered his mouth.

"Geez, shut up big mouth or do you want the rest of us to get attacked?"

Just then they heard the sound of a twig snap. This alerts Maka. Could it be that they were already found out?

A shadowy figure rushed past some trees that were on the other side of the alley. Black star ran out into the woods to find out who it was with a smile on his face.

"Oh come on!" Maka groaned. "You know, some times I wish we could just leave him."

"Maka!" Soul yelled feeling that was a bit excessive of Maka.

"Oh, I'm sure he'd be fine, There would at least be less yelling."

With a sigh Tsubaki disappeared apparently having headed into the woods to track down Black Star.

Meanwhile in the woods Black Star came across the culprit. He was a skinny man of average height. He had long gray hair and a sword by his side. Black Star knew this man very well. He was Mifune the swordsman, a man with the skill of a samurai. Unnnnfortunately before he got a good look at his opponent Black Star attacked.

"Who do you think you are planning a sneak attack against me and my friends?!" Black Star yelled as he hopped into the air and threw a kick at the man. His kick was easily blocked.

"Black star?" Tsubaki called as she searched the woods for her friend.

"I see, not bad. Not many people can block a kick from someone a big as me." Black Star said becoming even more excited. He immediately lifted his other leg and went to kick the man across the face but that leg too was blocked and this time he was tossed across the woods.

Black star Landed feet first against a tree before kicking off of it headed right towards the man a second time.

"Tch." That was the only sound the man made before his hand found it's way to the hilt of his blade.

Black Star's eyes opened wide as he witnessed this action.

With one slash…. Black Star…. was…

Back in the alley Maka and Soul found that trying to sleep in the alley was hard to do not just because they were worried about their friends but because it was just plain uncomfortable. What worse? Zombies were headed towards that location as indicated by the sounds of groans filling the area.

"Looks like we might have company soon." Maka said.

"Nope." Soul said wanting to get some rest. He looked up to see the top of the building. "Bingo. Maka come on."

Maka looked back at him, "Hm?"

"Let's head to the top of this building. I doubt these guys can climb."

"Great Idea!" Maka said before scaling the wall with her partner.

The zombies eventually flooded the tight alley way but Maka and Soul were home free on the roof of the building.

Meanwhile in the woods.

With one slash…. Black Star…. was… almost sliced in half but was saved by Tsubaki.

"What the?" Black Star complained seeing Tsubaki.

"You have to be more careful Blackstar. How many times have I told you ti move like a ninja?" Tsubaki lectures. She looks across the field to gauge their enemy. "Hey wait, isn't that?-"

Before she could finish Black Star had already run towards the opponent.

"Still raring to go are you?" The swordsman said before taking his fighting stance.

"Black Star no, that's Mifune!" Tsubaki yelled.

"What?" Black star responded glancing back over his shoulder at Tsubaki.

Black Star shifted his momentum in mid air and twisted his body as that he would land crouched down beside Mifune.

Tsubaki rushed over beside Black Star.

Black star stood up strait and looked over at his rival. "It IS you. What are you doing out here?"

After Mifune placed the tip of a wig of wheat in his mouth and looked down at the boy in both annoyance and relief.

He was annoyed that Black Star was in his presence due to the boy's big mouth but relieved that he wouldn't have to kill him… half because he valued him as a opponent and because he wasn't sure if he could. Every time he's come to blows with Black Star the kid had gotten much stronger than their last encounter. Hell Black Star may even be stronger than him now.

"Hey you, what were ya doin sneakin around!?" Black Star asked aggressively.

"I wasn't sneaking around. I was being chased." Mifune responded.

"Chased by what exactly?" Tsubaki asked.

Mifune turned to both of them with a serious face. "By..."

Suddenly a tree was knocked down and almost hit Tsubaki but Black Star acted quickly and pulled her out of the way.

"Looks like it's here." Mifune mumbled as a muscular zombie with purple hair and eyes stares the group down.

"This thing is what you're afraid of? Ha! Guess you've gotten weak! Let a Star show ya how to do it!" Black Star states before zipping in quickly and giving the zombie and kick to the neck. The kick was completely ineffective.

"Big mouth… but all talk." Mifune said after seeing Black Star fail in his attempt.

Without a word the swordsman stepped forward and unsheaved his blade, slashing in what seemed to be the same motion.

"Got em!" Black Star cheered.

All he managed to do was leave a cut on the zombie as it's muscles had been hardened by some means.

"Guuuuh!" The zombie grunted as it's arm lifted into the air and came down with a force that would have easily killed Mifune if Black Star hadn't intervened, literally donkey kicking the zombie from behind causing it to stumble forward.

Before the undead man could look back to see the boy who had struck him Tsubaki blinded it by tossing shuriken directly into it's eyes.

"Ninja throwing stars. Smart. This girl thinks before acting… unlike him." Mifune thought to himself.

The 3 of them now had the advantage… or they did until… more zombies started crawling from behind trees.

Black Star, Tsubaki and Mifune immediately jumped into action, attacking the zombie as a unit. There was even a point where the 3 of them dog piled it in an attempt to hold it down but to no avil.

On the roof outside the woods Soul glanced over towards the direction of the woods.

"What's the matter Soul?" Maka asked.

"I sense some bad energy." Soul said before hopping off of the roof, followed closely by Maka.

Black Star and the others were having a hard time. Black Star hit the ground with a thud but hopped to his feet soon enough.

"Okay then. I guess it's time to get serious." Black Star said while holding his hand out.

Tsubaki nodded and prepared to transform but before she got a chance Maka and Soul rushed by.

"Huh?" Tsubaki gasped.

"Don't worry guys, we're here now!" Maka said preparing herself for battle.

Black Star started fussing in the background with a pound vein on his forehead.

"Ready Soul?" Maka said to her partner without ever taking her eyes off of her muscle bound opponent.

Yeah, a cool guy like me is always ready." Soul said giving his usual side grin.

With that Soul transformed into light and reshaped himself as a black and red scythe with a silver rod.

Maka grabbed a hold of the "Soul Scythe" and spun it over her head a couple of times before resting the rod over her shoulder.

"This girl… she's strong..." Mifune said to himself.

Maka ran only to meet the huge fist of the zombie. With a hop she jumped up onto it's arm. Maka raised her weapon and prepared to slice the zombie's arm off.

"Remember Maka, We don't want to hurt them!" Tsubaki yelled out.

"Maka… they're already dead..." Soul said somberly.

After about a second of thought Maka came down with her swing, unfortunately the zombie shook her off just before she could make contact.

"Come on Maka, get it together. Our resonance isn't high enough!" Soul urged.

"Sorry sorry, I'll focus more." Maka said, sounding unsure.

Her next movements were about as sloppy and uncoordinated as her words even the dead zomie could block them.

"The hell Maka? What are you thinking about?" Soul asked.

"It's just..." The zombie uppercut her sending her up into a tree.

"Maka!" Soul yelled, unable to do anything.

Maka spoke in pain

"We haven't gotten back to the DWMA to talk to lord death. For all we know these zombies might have been turned this way by the powers of a witch."

"Hopeful thinking. I can tell these people are dead."

"How can you tell Soul?"

"For one thing I would be able to sense the magic of a witch. Also this zombie isn't blocking any of it's vital spots. A living being would make sure to do so at all costs. His guy is just moving his tree trunk like arms to block in general. Seems more like muscle memory then acting on a thought."

Maka bit her bottom lip. Would she be able to fight what she felt was right to do the sensible thing here?

If you're gonna chill up there I'm gonna take this guy out!" Black Star yelled from down below. Maaaan, you guys have gotten weeeak!"

Maka gasps, her eyes opening wide."Weak?"

"Shut up idiot!" Soul shouted down to Black Star.

"No, I won't. I looked down to you guys!" Black Star yelled.

"The phrase it I looked UP to-" Tsubaki started to say to herself before remembering who was talking. Black Star saw himself as bigger than everyone.

"You guys may not have been as strong as me but you weren't this weak, that's for sure!"

"That dumbass. Hey Maka don't listen to him.-" Soul said before being cut off.

"No Soul… he's right." Maka spoke.

"Huh?" Soul mumbled.

"I may not always be strong but..." Maka started before hopping out of the tree and landing on her feet below. "WE have always been strong."

Soul couldn't help but smile, though from inside the scythe.

"You know what partner? You're right. Let's show what we're really made of." Soul said

Tsubaki smiled with her eyes closed. "Did Black Star just fix their relationship by telling them he's better than them?

"You ready Soul?" Maka asked, her eyes now full of resolve.

"You bet!" Soul answered as he started to glow in her hands.

"SOUL RESONANCE!" both Maka and Soul screamed.

Maka started to glow. The two of them were now in sync, spiritually and mentally.

Mifune put away his sword.

Maka began swinging her weapon and with every swing another limb of the zombie few off. In five seconds Maka and Soul had done what no one else there could. Her final slash split the undead man in half.

Blood spewed everywhere.

"They did it!" Tsubaki said happily.

Mifune began walking off.

"Hey, where are you going!?" Black Star yelled.

"Everything was solved here. I've got something to do myself." Mifune said before walking off.

Maka looked down at the zombie… at the person that she left in pieces on the ground.

Soul transformed back into a human and stood next to her.

"Come on… lets go." Maka said right before walking away with her eyes covered by shadow.

"Maka..." Soul said as he turned back to see her walking.

All 4 members of the group made their way to the top of the building in the alley way.

Present time.

They are all sleeping when they heard the door to their left begin to rattle. Tsubaki woke and hopped up. The door burst open and soon their was a flash. When the light died down Tsubaki was blocking a sword with her kunai.

In front of Tsubaki is a tall teenage girl with long purple hair.

Maka wakesto see the struggle.

"wha- who is she?"

The door that leads into the building bursts open again and a brown hair boy run out onto the roof. "Saeko, what's going on? Did you find more zom… bies?"

Who are these two and what problems will they bring?
