This is a fantastic story. Wonderful written with the characters personalities pretty spot on and a fantastic plot line.
I'm gonna sound dull but I hope you'll continue this eventually please.

This is a very interesting read, but my one complaint is that you're mixing up your tenses a lot. Jumping from past to present at the drop of a hat is an error.

It may be my ignorance, but I think 'take a rain check' is an American idiom. I puzzled over it in films, books and fan fiction for years until Alistair Cooke explained it in one of his 'Letter from America' broadcasts (BBC radio, 15 minute verbal essays informing the UK of aspects of American culture) which explained about baseball rain checks. It may have crept into UK parlance but I think a Brit would be more likely to say 'thanks but perhaps another time' or OK, I'll get back to you'. Loving your story, by the way.
