Definetly one of the better stories, just wished you would update.

One of the better stories, even unfinished. You did a such great job developing characters that were barely mentioned in canon, keeping them true to the Black name and history and somehow made them likable too. I hope you finish, after all the work you put into this. Mostly because I want to read the rest! Leaving us on a cliff hanger is just plain mean.

these past few chapters (including this one) were excellent! the way you're portraying the black family and their many flaws and their love for each other and their conflicts is truly inspiring!

ok so I always skip the romance part because these are just kids of 11-12 years you are writing about and I find the way you have them 'flirt' and 'interact' with their love interests is not very age appropriate, even for their posh family life. but I do still enjoy some parts of the story.

This was the most fresh-feeling fic I've read in ages. Nearly all fics out there fall into the trap of muggle-tech-is-better, wizards-are-bigots, and wizards-are-stupid. While any of those could be true, they've become stale concepts in fanfic. They've become boring. These fics also have a habit of using Perfect!Hermione, which is honestly one of the most frustrating fanfic tropes I've ever seen.

Growing Up Black does none of these. It takes your typical Dark!Harry tropes and says "No thanks, I do things my way." If you like any Dark!Harry tropes, but have come to feel as if you've read everything already, then this is the fic for you. And if you don't like Dark!Harry tropes, then this is still the fic for you; it's remarkably well-written, full of fun and misery alike, and could believably be an alternate canon. It may not be complete, and it may very well never be completed, but Growing Up Black still has over 200,000 words of adventure for you and it never drags on. Will you never find out how it ends? Possibly. Frankly, I'm not too bothered; it's the journey that counts. And the journey was great.

...Pfft, I don't know why I'm writing this like an actual review, like anyone except maybe the author's going to read this. Anyway, I just wanted to put into words how great this fic was, because it was. I've been reading fanfic for years now, and things start to get really same-y after a while. Fics that feel fresh and original, such as this one, make my damn day. And it's well-written to boot! Give yourself a pat on the shoulder, 'cause you've earned it. Forget about the fact that the fic's incomplete for a bit, and feel proud of the fact that you made it this far in the first place. Fics of this size aren't unusual, but fics of this size and quality? Invisible, shrunken needles in a haystack.

I know there's a low chance of you reading this, but thank you. This is one of the few fanfictions that i have genuinely and utterly liked. I _consumed_ it, from the very first chapter to the very last, and i thank you sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, for writing this. I care not that this is unfinished, or on an indefinite hiatus, this is by far the best HP ff i have come across, and believe me I've come across a great deal.
