This was wonderful.

This whole 'scene' feels exactly right. As though it really was a hidden part of the story that we didn't get to see at the time, and didn't know we needed to see. I love the idea that everyone is 'different tonight', and the quiet exchange between Shawn and Lassie, but what happens here between Shawn and Juliet is actually a foretaste of their ultimate relationship because some of the sweetest moments we witness between them are not only the ones where he opens his heart to her (in his own, very Shawn-like way) but also the quiet ones where he just holds her, like this. As I'm sure you intended because you understand them so well.

THIS IS SO SOFT

I can see why this would be a tricky chapter to write (and kudos to you for tackling it) but I think the thought process Shawn goes through here is totally valid and paves the way for what comes next. Also, your use of his humour is well-placed, so don't worry. As you hoped, it helps to highlight his sense of relief and growing excitement when he realises he could have a future with Juliet after all.

I think my favourite line was the one about being a fake psychic and forgetting to think about the future. It makes total sense - he was dwelling on the past too much and trying to fix that instead.
