That is so very true, that if d’Artagnan is so very good to get into trouble himself everywhere, where he goes, then Aramis is even worse – he is the best to bring trouble not upon himself, but upon the others, especially upon the people who are the closest to him. This wonderful set of fanfiction’s stories (many thanks for Constance slapping Athos with her hat! I adore them!) is written and published long before the S2 of the show aired, but the most idea of it is captured just impeccably. There was a hell to pay for Aramis’ indiscretion with the Queen, but mostly the others had to pay for it, not Aramis himself or even the Queen had to pay it. Even, if in the canon that was not d’Artagnan who went to scaffold for that and had been rescued in the very last moment, but Constance, the idea is just true. And Lemay died on the scaffold and looked severely beaten before it, whereas Aramis himself didn’t even had a single scratch. He just had to endure the uncomfortable feeling to lie under the aid on the Bible during the trial. Nothing more, even if truly honourable man would willingly execute himself just for all the abominable things, which he has done to Marguerite.
The show has pointed out very clear that Aramis doesn’t charm ALL the women, into what for some obscure reasons try to argue some writers of the fanfiction. In the canon there are many such women (as a matter of fact), nevertheless, but never ALL! And that is very important point. We have a long list of intelligent, beautiful, smart, spirited and brave women in the show who never have been interested in Aramis in such a way, but clearly did have such regards for somebody else of the Inseparables – Milady, Constance, Sylvie, Ninon, Lucie de Foix, Elodie, false Princess Louise… More even, somehow those other women, who were charmed by Aramis, all together, including the Queen, used to have less brain than, for example, one Milady or Constance had in one her little finger. The Queen was undoubtedly much smarter than her husband, but very far beneath the level of Constance, who had detected the dangerous scheme of Rochefort and warned the Queen about it long before the situation got out of every control, but the Queen declined everything, told Constance to calm down and that Rochefort was a good friend. The Queen might be good and reasonable person in mundane matters, but she inevitably loosed her little, pretty head, when the things got out or beyond of the normal order. She might be kind and even compassionate regarding those, for whom she cared, but she could put them or herself in the worst possible danger, if she thought (she thinks!) that it was good so – her little escapade with Constance to the camp of the religious fanatics, who hated her and wanted to kill her the most (S2 Ep4), or her order to Constance to venture with the Dauphin trough Paris full of armed enemies, which was besieged by the troops of Gaston with clear purpose to usurp the crown of France at the end of S3, because… she was just worried and wanted to see her son immediately. And that this little, capricious worry of hers almost costed the very life to her own son, to Constance (just a little slap in face, from which she felt to the ground) and in fact costed life to de Tréville. The Queen of the noble house of the Habsburg, born and raised at the royal court of Spain, should be more experienced than poor little Agnes Bernard of the S1 Ep6 (The Exiles) about the extreme forms of the fight for royal power to be convinced all the same, as this simple village girl has been, that the royal palace is the best and safest place for little boy of royal blood and the heir to the throne in the times of the most severe battle for the power, especially as the Queen rightly esteemed the Prince Gaston quite capable of the most sinister deeds. And her mistrust to de Tréville and to Constance in all that was just disgusting, for those two very people had saved her of the consequences of her treason and knew about her everything, but never betrayed her. Constance has been very close to pay with her life for it just because she didn’t admit in public the truth about the Queen. It even had not been asked of Constance to give a false witness, just to say the truth! (Btw every decent monarch might have knighted such a loyal servant, accorded her the nobility and the title of at least of the countess for such a service, but not our Anne.) It cannot just be justified with the Queen’s worry for her son, for the Queen knew from her own experience that those two people would die in a heartbeat for them both – the Queen and the Dauphin – and if there was any safe place for the boy at that moment, that was with them. And the Queen nevertheless was really the most intelligent women from all other charmed by the charmer Aramis. The others were decidedly even less intelligent. Pauline, who wanted to be the ladeeee with the diamond, which those wicked musketeers just NEEDED more than her (she didn’t NEED it at all, just the musketeers NEEDED it), from the S3 Ep4 (The Queen’s Diamonds), fortunately was much less gifted than Milady, for she had all the chances to become Milady 2, if she had had some brain.
As for Aramis’ so-called love for the Queen, it just good, that he never met any Queen of the Planet Earth or of the Universe. For then he would forget about the Queen of just France in a heartbeat and fell in love with some other most important queen. In the S1 he related his love story with Isabelle to Agnes Bernard, telling that only Isabelle was the true love of his life, but he omitted to recognize this same true love of his some episodes later, as he met her in the S1 Ep9. She revealed her identity to him herself and died the same day before his eyes. The same night he just slept with the next one love of his life. So easy is he. That is not for all women to be charmed by such a man, although that is a real phenomenon to marvel about, that there are many enough women who can find such a man charming. But not my cup of tea! I like and even love doctoring or mother hening Aramis, just never Aramis the lover. For me that is something mockingly impossible to believe that something of kind can be taken as love.

All I can say is wow. Even saving the others, it's his life on the line... yeah the other three, 4 with Treville, will have a full head of gray hair before long ;) Hard to pick a fav but, being a woman and being a skilled fighter myself, I like Constance taking her love's place to protect him. Kinda makes me think of Mulan a bit too, love but another kind of love. 10/10

While I adore the four Musketeers I particularly enjoyed this chapter for the interaction between the Cardinal and Treville. The first season was wonderful because of Peter Capaldi playing the Cardinal and his brush with Treville and the others. None of the other bad guys came close...

Despite the grammar and orthograph errors, this is a riveting read: kept me up well into the wee hours ! Good work, Chat noir ! :-D
